Hello, deviantArt friends.
Well, it would seem my first animation contract at BIg Jump has come to an end and I am now moving on to another studio, that being Mercury Filmworks. I enjoyed my time at Big Jump and wish I could continue to work there, especially since it took me till the very end to get accustomed to the workflow, but this sort of jumping around is pretty par-the-course for this line of work. Now I'll have to start getting accustomed to a completely different work environment. I hope I can adapt quicker this time.
I bought a new desktop computer recently but this purchase has made things pretty tight for me financially. A proper work computer is something I did need though. My old laptop wasn't able to run the softwares I use very well if at all, and I'll be expected to be able to work from home if the need arises. Not to mention the fact that I want to be able to work on personal projects as well. As a graduation gift, my mom is going to help me pay for on of these babies: www.yiynova.ca/Products/?objID…
It's a much less expensive cintiq alternative that I've heard pretty good reviews for. I can't wait till I can finally get it!
I've sought out help to get my finances in order because I'm notoriously bad with money. I haven't screwed up too badly yet, so if I live frugally (which I already do) and keep putting aside money from every paycheque, I should be able to get my crap in order.
As it stands now, I'm a college trained professional making little more than minimum wage for my animation work. This sucks balls, but hey, at least its minimum wage in the career field I went to school for! The jobs aren't hard to come by and the more I improve, the more money I can make. Hopefully someday I'll be making a decent wage!
